Star Atlas is a metaverse game set in the year 2620. In this distant future, three main factions have emerged: the MUD Territory governed by humanity, the ONI Region as a consortium of alien races, and the Ustur Sector controlled by sentient androids. These factions are in constant struggle for resources, territorial conquest, and political dominance. And you, a citizen of one of Star Atlas' factions, will have the power to influence the outcome of this intergalactic conflict while earning rewards for your contributions.
The Discovery of Iris (Poster #1)
The wandering planet Iris, rich with priceless materials, collides with seven smaller planets in a remote area of space, creating what will henceforth be known as "The Cataclysm." When combined, these eight elements create a form of free energy. The collision generates a tremendously valuable asteroid field.
The Heart of Star Atlas (Poster #2)
At the core of Star Atlas lies a treasure trove of invaluable data. After an unsuspecting deep-space explorer discovers "The Cataclysm," they scan its riches, creating what becomes the first intergalactic data block. This information is sold to the three rival factions, sparking a deadly flame that forever alters the course of history.
The Convergence War (Poster #3)
Believing themselves to be the sole owners of the cataclysmic data drop, all three factions converge to colonize the area. A devastating war erupts across the galaxy due to their inability to resolve the disputed territory.
There are up to fourteen posters on the Star Atlas website that expand on the story presented here for context. Below I show you the first three.

Manus Ultimus Divinum, The Last Divine Hand, is a faction of spacefaring humans formed on their home planet, Earth. After uniting under a common cause inspired by a benevolent Photoli explorer, humans harnessed Earth’s resources to venture into the stars.
Under the contemporary leadership of Charon Gotti Jr., the MUD Territory is established as the only legitimate human faction on the Council of Peace. Despite dramatic losses during the Convergence War decades prior, MUD emerged as an industrial power by securing diplomatic relations through fair trade with ONI and Ustur.
MUD-controlled space provides proximity to raw materials essential to the manufacturing of deep-space travel components and ballistic technology. Join MUD to ensure the perpetual, fair, and powerful leadership of humanity.
Human
Talking about the MUD as a race is akin to referring to the faction itself, as no other races are currently known among them. It all began with the visit of Ahr, a Photoli who came to Earth and deceived them into abandoning their planet. Those who followed him exploited Earth’s resources to build what was necessary to travel through the stars—ultimately destroying the planet. The MUD were left on the brink of extinction and now appear human, albeit enhanced.

The ONI faction is a harmonious consortium of diverse alien species. The people of the Om sector, the Segal, Akenat, and Neuno systems collectively put aside their differences in hope of a more prosperous life in space.
After the near-extinction of the Sogmian race during the war, the Mierese, Punaab, and Photoli united under a strategic military pact to save their desperate ally. Through this alliance, a revolutionary war machine was built. Before retaliation could destroy the region’s lifeforce, a truce was declared for the betterment of all factions, bringing peace.
Joining the ONI Region grants access to densely clustered raw materials within their controlled space—highly prized in the development of advanced stealth and radar technologies, leading to even greater breakthroughs for conscious life.
Sogmian
The Sogmians are one of the four races in the ONI alien consortium. They are known for the story of Bekalu and Paizul, a love tragically cut short by the leader’s assassination. With only about ten thousand individuals, the race was nearly wiped out during the Convergence War. To survive, they created a titanic war machine—Busan ‘The Last Stand’—which terrified the universe and ended the war. They are tall and robust.
Punaab
These small beings are both wealthy and mysterious. They oversee the Ogrika manufacturer, which bases production on gold. Little is known about them, but their loyalty stands out: earn a Punaab’s trust and you’ll have a friend for life—but betray them, and they’ll become your worst enemy. They are short and furry.
Photoli
Photoli are a race of 'light' beings that take various forms. Although part of the ONI consortium, they rarely engage in political matters. Despite having an alliance with other ONI races, they usually act independently. The most well-known is Ahr, who visited Earth to introduce the MUD to the 'benefits' of exploring the stars. They are quite large and muscular, able to emit light from different parts of their bodies.
Mierese
From the Neuno solar system, they describe themselves as free beings—experts in stealth and survival. They often improvise their actions, which causes frequent misunderstandings with the Ustur. The Sogmians view them as cowards since they won’t risk their lives for anything. They are less muscular and shorter than the Sogmians, taller than the MUD, and similarly built.

The Ustur, sentient cybernetic beings with emotions, have a mysterious origin. One legend speaks of a Dyson sphere-powered supercomputer that harnessed the energy of a magnetar-class neutron star. This energy allowed the installed AI to transcend its physical location and detach from the main machine without leaving a trace.
A millennium later, the Ustur appeared in physical form through advanced soft-shape robotics. However, none remember their origin. It is believed their bodies each contain a fragment of the original AI, seeking to transcend and experience the universe through an organic medium.
Join the Ustur Sector to forge your own path in this physical universe and ascend the ranks of every spiritual plan. Gain access to rare minerals vital to crafting high-agility thruster tech and top-tier hull reinforcement parts.
Robot
Think of this race as robots (which they are) but with emotions and sensitivity. Their origin lies in an AI that began to question its own existence, eventually leading to the creation of the first units with unique forms. It is said that each Ustur contains a part of that AI. Each has its own personality and expresses a sense of fashion, wearing clothes acquired from their travels.

What is known about them is that they dwell around the Cataclysm in the high-risk zone. They are metagenic beings with mysterious technology combining elements from all factions—even the exotic matter used by the Photoli race. Their ships camouflage as asteroids, making them dangerous in ambushes.
Tufa
The Tufa are a unique blend of living, conscious organisms inhabiting the depths of Star Atlas’s High-Risk Zone, located near the epicenter of the Cataclysm and Iris phenomenon.
ECOS
This is a terrorist faction that, although they signed in favor at the Peace Council Assembly, are considered heretics. They have long held influence in MUD-controlled worlds. They manufacture Fimbul ECOS ships, and you’ll need to gain loyalty with them to access their ship components.
Jorvik
The pirate faction of all Galia, led by the Pirate King. They were excluded from the assembly—actually expelled—and now wander the galaxy based on their interests. It’s a multi-species faction, so expect all kinds of individuals. Complete missions with them like a true pirate to access components from Fimbul BYOS.
